Local residents blocked railways and roads in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, protesting the cancellation of the newly formed Barishol union and the proposal to form a new upazila. This halted train and traffic movement on various routes for about four and a half hours. Later, the blockade was lifted around 11:30 AM following assurances from representatives sent by the Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-3. The protest arose after a new union was formed in May and a recent proposal emerged to create a new upazila.
