A Bangladeshi named Monirul Islam (35) was injured in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) over alleged gold smuggling at the Jibannagar border in Chuadanga. The incident took place on Friday around 6:00 PM near the border area of Hariharnagar village under Simanta union in Jibannagar upazila. Injured Monirul is the son of Liakat Islam of that village.

According to local sources, Monirul and six others went near the border barbed wire on Friday evening for gold smuggling. Monirul was hit by a bullet in the leg and rubber bullets on his back when BSF opened fire. While others managed to flee, BSF detained the injured Monirul and took him inside India. However, it is still not confirmed whether he is alive.
