A total of 15 wild animals of various species were rescued from different areas in Sreemangal and Kamalganj upazilas of Maulvibazar over a span of one month from October 1 to 31 by the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation. As wild animals frequently strayed into localities in the green tea garden areas, local residents became panicked but refrained from killing them, instead informing the foundation, which promptly sent rescue teams.
The rescued animals include pythons, apped leaf monkeys (Mukhpora langur), rat snakes, venomous Padma cobras, monocled cobras, checkerd keelbacks, and banded kraits (Shonghini). These were rescued from various locations including Amrailchhara, Uttar Bharaura, South Rampur tea garden, Noagaon, Sabuj Bazar, Raju Mia's house, Bhurbhuri tea garden, Sindurkhan road, and Radhanagar road where snakes entered houses, pythons entered poultry farms, and langurs got stuck in electric wires.
Foundation directors Swapan Deb Sajal and Rajdeep Deb Dip stated that they want both humans and wildlife to coexist and urged people not to kill snakes upon sight but to notify the foundation. They added that through awareness and prompt reporting, these animals can be safely rescued and released back into the forest.
