The Domestic Rooftop Solar (DTRS) program has been launched in Bhaluka to expand the use of solar power at the residential level. On Friday, Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the project at the Bhaluka Upazila Parishad auditorium, expressing hope that load shedding would decrease before the upcoming summer.
Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) and Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL) are jointly implementing this program. As the beginning of the program, solar power systems have been installed on the roofs of two houses. Among them, a 20 kWp solar system was installed at the house of Member of Parliament Fakhr Uddin Ahmed Bachchu and a 5 kWp capacity solar system at local resident Sohel Rana's house.
By generating domestic rooftop solar electricity through installations on roofs or pillars, people can meet their own electricity demand and add excess electricity to the national grid. Customers will deposit 20 percent of the fixed price of a solar system, while the remaining amount will be provided as a loan by IDCOL and BIFFL, which must be repaid later in installments.
