Two journalists came under an armed attack with machetes and iron pipes in front of Patuakhali Municipality. Rajib Debnath, Patuakhali district correspondent for Dainik Kalbela and press club member, and Yahia Shakur, a journalist for Dainik Ajker Khabor, sustained serious injuries. The incident took place on Saturday, November 7, around 9 PM. Currently, both injured journalists are undergoing treatment at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.
Injured Rajib Debnath alleged that local Hasan Molla alias Ghaura Hasan and his associates carried out this sudden attack. He claimed that a previous attack also occurred due to news publication, for which a written complaint was filed at the police station. Despite informing police via phone prior to the incident due to fears of an attack, they allegedly did not arrive immediately until a call was made to 999.
Patuakhali Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman stated that he rushed to the hospital immediately after receiving the news and legal action will be taken against those involved. Meanwhile, the injured journalists expressed deep concern and insecurity regarding their safety while receiving treatment at the hospital.
